‘Karnali International Film Festival’ will be held in Birendranagar’

Karnali International Film Festival 2080 is going to be organized for the first time in Birendranagar of Surkhet District, the capital of Karnali Province. On Monday, a press conference was held at the meeting hall of the Film Development Board and it was informed that the festival will be held for three days from Ashwin 4th to Ashwin 6th. At the festival, there will be discussions about the development of Karnali as film tourism, from the screening of films based on the story of Karnali.

Chakra Bahadur Chand, director of the festival informed that the aim of the festival is to promote Karnali’s story, lifestyle, costumes, art and culture, language, literature, tradition and customs at the national and international level. He believes that the festival will promote local art and culture. Redcherry Media, Karnali State Government, Nepal Tourism Board and Film Development Board have collaborated in the festival. 

About the purpose of the festival, Chand said, ‘Our purpose is to make Karnali known all over the world and make it a destination for filming. Seeing the need to promote tourism through film, we are going to organize the festival.’ In the program, Member of the House of Representatives Gyanendra Shahi promised to raise his voice in the Parliament by bringing an attractive plan to make Karnali a destination for film shooting.

Former state minister Kunti Kumari Shahi, actor Shiva Shrestha, comedian Himesh Pant, former registrar of Midwestern University Dr. Mahendra Bahadur Malla, director Ramsharan Pathak, producer Rajju Pradhan and others were present at the press conference. Lately, there has been an increase in filming in Karnali. Films like ‘Prakash’, ‘Bulaki’ were shot in Karnali region.
