Case against Balen’s decision to stop Indian film before single bench of Justice Chand

The case against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s decision to ban Indian films has come before the single bench of Judge Dhir Bahadur Chand. Pritam Ghimire, on behalf of the Film Association, filed a writ against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Thursday in the Patan High Court seeking an injunction order.

Jay Lal Bhandari, a legal practitioner on behalf of the association, said that there is a possibility that an order may be issued today in this case. According to him, Mayor Balen Shah, City Police, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Communication, Information and Technology were the opponents in this case.

On the direction of Mayor Shah, screening of Indian films in cinema halls within the Kathmandu metropolitan area was stopped from Monday. Learning of his decision, Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality and Dharan Sub-Metropolitan Municipality also decided to stop Indian films until the dialogue included in Adipurush is corrected.

Meanwhile, the prohibition case filed by the Civil Aviation Authority against Mayor Shah has also come to the bench of Judge Chanda.
