European Union Film Festival in Surkhet from Wednesday

‘Nepal European Union Film Festival-2023’ will be held in Surkhet from Wednesday. The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal is going to organize a film festival in Surkhet from Wednesday to Friday. The 12th edition of the festival is going to be conducted with the slogan ‘Human Rights Festival for All’.

In the first phase of the Nepal European Union Film Festival, the film was screened in Mahendranagar, Sudurpaschim Province. Sudurpaschim University was the co-organizer of the festival held in Mahendranagar from 15th to 17th of Baisakh. The second phase of the movie is going to be screened in Surkhet in co-organization of Midwest University. According to the organizers, the festival will be organized on 20th, 21st and 22nd of Baisakh in the auditorium of Midwest University.

“It has been 75 years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was issued, and the purpose of the present festival is to increase the awareness of common people about their rights, to build networks and solidarity to protect the human rights of all,” said Nona Deprez, Ambassador of the European Union to Nepal. According to him, eight films made by European and Nepalese directors will be screened during the festival.

The festival will begin with the screening of the movie ‘Any Day Now’ directed by Hami Ramezan. In addition, there will be a discussion on the topic of ‘Role of cinema in promoting human rights’, and a master class on cinema. The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal has been holding a film festival for the past 11 years.

According to the organizers, the last phase of this year’s film exhibition will be held in the hall of the Film Development Board in Kathmandu from Baisakh 29 to Jestha 1. Films that will be screened at the festival will be available for free.
