Film Development Board is going to operate ‘Cinema Cyber Security Desk’. In a press conference held at the Board’s meeting hall on Tuesday, it was informed that the system development work for the desk with hotline number has started. A demonstration (sample) with a plan to take the board to digital technology was also presented in the program.
Director General of Information Technology Department Prem Sharan Shrestha, Executive Director of National Information Technology Center Pradip Sharma Paudel, Registrar of Nepal Copyright Registrar Prahlad Prasad Pudasaini, Police Superintendent of Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office Rabindra Regmi, Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police Rupak Khadka of Police Headquarters, Police Inspector Khemraj Khanal, Senior Deputy Inspector of Police Santosh Lama, Deputy Inspector of Police Kopila KC, Board member KL Budhathoki and others were present.
In the program, Bikrant Karki, founder of Robotics Academy of Nepal and Nibesh Kiran Adhikari of Idea Breed IT Solutions jointly showed a demonstration (sample) about ‘Cinema Cyber Security Desk’. These two IT companies will work on system development for the desk.
Board President Bhuvan KC said that the program was organized to discuss the issue of how to get rid of the cyber attacks that Nepali film industry is facing and the steps to be taken by the board. ‘Social networks have created new challenges regarding cyber security. We have seen many examples of Nepali movies being leaked or pirated online, which has caused a huge loss to the industry. Apart from this, there are cyber attacks on the privacy and security of our actors,’ he said.
KC emphasized that cyber security is a complex issue and should be addressed from a multilateral perspective. He said that Nepali government, Nepal police, film producers, social media platforms and other stakeholders should work together to minimize cyber threats faced by Nepali films and film workers.

Poudel, the executive director of the National Information Technology Center, stated that the steps taken by the board are very important and expressed the commitment of the technology center to cooperate as needed. Similarly, Director General of Information Technology Department Shrestha also said that the Government of Nepal is ready to provide necessary support to the ‘Cinema Cyber Security Desk’. Registrar Pudasaini promised to cooperate with the board, stating that cyber security and protection of intellectual property are mutual.
Nawal Khadka, President of Nepal Film Producers Association, insisted that the board should implement the cyber security desk immediately. Regmi, Police Superintendent of Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, stated that Nepal Police has operated a dedicated bureau for cyber security, ‘Cyber Bureau’, and said that Nepal is always ready to solve every problem of films and film crews.
