Cyber attacks on artists’ privacy and security on the rise: Bhuwan KC

Kathmandu- Film Development Board Chairman Bhuwan KC has said that there has been an increase in cyber attacks on the privacy and security of actors.

He said this while speaking at an interaction program on the film Cyber Security Desk organized by the Film Development Board in Kathmandu on Tuesday. KC said that the problems are also increasing due to technology. On the other hand, it has become easy for us to reach the audience and expand the film industry, but this has created a new challenge in terms of cyber security. We have seen many examples of Nepali movies being leaked online’, he said, ‘This has caused a huge loss to the film industry. Apart from this, we have also found cyber attacks on the privacy and security of our artists. To address these challenges, the Film Development Board has decided to take active steps by establishing a dedicated desk hotline related to film cyber security. Cyber security is a complex issue. We have to address this from a multilateral perspective. The Film Development Board is committed to addressing the cyber security challenges faced by the Nepali national film industry.

In the program, Nabal Khadka, president of Film Producers Association, accused the board of raising the issue of cyber attack only as a ritual. He said that since Tiktok has been developed in such a way that it is possible to upload videos of a very long duration, all videos are made public through Tiktok.

He said, “The subject is important, but when it came, scattered.” We all know the problem but nothing came of the solution. Now there was a ritualistic discussion. Now Tiktok has brought many problems. They used to say that only videos of 2 minutes and 4 minutes can be uploaded on Tiktok, but now you can upload up to 40 minutes. That’s the technique, the film is finished when you put it twice. But what mechanism do we have to stop it? What happens after seeking treatment after death? Legal treatment should be immediate.

In the program, Director General of Information Technology Department, Premsharan Shrestha, emphasized that the incidence of cyber crime should be reduced by strengthening the laws related to movies.

In the program, Police Superintendent of Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office Ravindra Regmi said that the directly affected film workers should not hesitate to file a complaint.

Superintendent of Police Regmi said that in order to reduce cyber crime, it is necessary to work together with all relevant agencies to create public awareness.
