The first film directed by Pradeep Shahi ‘1915: Legend of Gorkhas’ is going to be released on the world’s famous OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. The film that was screened in Nepal last Bhadra under the name of ‘Gorkha: Beneath the Bravery’ is going to be released on Amazon Prime Video after changing the name. American Distribution Company S.N.R. Films is distributing the film.
Director Shahi informed that the film will be released on Prime America from May 2. After that, preparations are being made for release in UK, Australia, Japan, Taliban and South Korea, he said. The film is based on the true story of Kulveer Thapa, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for the first time for Nepalese Gurkhas. The entire shooting of the film took place in the UK.
On September 25, 1915, British forces launched a major attack on Luce, France. In that battle, 26-year-old rifleman Kulveer Thapa was seriously injured. However, he managed to survive. At that time, from 26 September, Thapa worked to rescue the victims. It was after this incident that he was awarded the Victoria Cross, the first for the Gurkhas. His story is shown in the film.
The film, written by director Shahi, stars Samir Gurung, Gaumaya Gurung, Stuart Walker, Agostino Oberhofer, Olly Bassi, Robin Friberg, Rajan Gurung, Surya Gurung, Seon Shahi and others. Produced by Madhu Gurung and Prayas Gurung, the film is executive produced by Binod Subedi Khatri ‘Kshitij’. The second film ‘Antim Sanskar’ directed by Pradeep Shahi is getting ready for release.
