Singer and composer Bhakta Raj Acharya has been cremated. On Tuesday afternoon at Pashupati Aryaghat, singer Acharya, who passed away at the age of 82 on Monday afternoon while being transported to the hospital for treatment, was cremated with full national honors. He received a dagbatti from his two sons, Satya Raj Acharya and Swaroop Raj Acharya, and a salute from the Nepal Police.
Musicians sang the ageless song of singer Acharya as they paid their final respects to him. Singing “Jaha chan buddha ka aankha,” “Hajar sapana haruko maya lagera aucha,” and a bhajan song were performed in his honor. Satya Raj and Swaroop Raj, Bhakta Raj’s two sons, also honored their father with musical performances. They were both so distraught about their father’s passing that they appeared insane.
Acharya fell ill at home and was brought to Medicity Hospital in Lalitpur by his son Swaroop Raj. But before getting to the hospital, he passed away in transit. This Dashain, Acharya was recuperating at home from a fall that left him with a head injury. After an incident on Mangsir 19, 2046, his voice and tone were lost. He has sung more than 500 songs in his lifetime.
The songs of Acharya, including “Jati Chot Dinchau,” “Hajar sapana haruko maya lagera aucha,” “Jaha chan buddha ka aankha,” and “Mutu Jali Rahecha,” are timeless. Based on his biography, the film “Acharya” has also been produced. Satya Raj, the son of Acharya, plays the father in this Prashant Rasaili-directed film. Acharya’s struggles, pains, and achievements in life are depicted in the film.
