‘No Winter Holidays’ from Nepal won best feature documentary

The 11th Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival 2023’s “No Winter Holidays,” directed by Rajan Kathet and Sunir Pandey, took home the Best Feature Documentary prize.

The festival jury selected the documentary as the best of the bunch. It chronicles the stories of two elderly single women who were wed to the same man after their spouses passed away.

In the festival held on Tuesday, France’s Javahin Janitor’s “On My Father’s Grave,” Akanksha Karki’s “Sanai” and Shubhangi Khadka’s “Age Unlearning” won the best short film in the category of best story in the short film category.

As every year, this time the theme of collective rights has been prioritized, the organizers said. Film applications were received from more than 100 countries at this year’s festival. Only 54 films from 26 countries were included in the festival.

The festival has been organized for about 11 years with the aim of bringing the issue of human rights to people easily through films and providing a platform for filmmakers to showcase their films.
