Kathmandu landless squatters protest against Mayor Balen Shah

A group of landless squatters held a protest in Kathmandu on Monday against the city of Mayor Balen Shah.

After the city government issued a public notice, giving them seven days to leave the river bank government land and other public property they are occupying.

The protesters argue that the plan to evict them from their residences, without giving them an alternative, is a breach of the constitution and current laws.

Kumar Karki, leader of the group, warns that the protest will escalate if the city government does not remove the notice.

Time and time again, the city government has been making efforts to remove squatters from public lands, but has failed, due to his resistance citing a lack of alternatives.
