The International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Women’s Mission (UN Women) have completed a policy dialogue program for the creation of decent jobs and sustainable development for women workers working in Nepali films. The program also concluded that the ILO and the government should work together to create a policy.
A working paper prepared after studying the situation of women working in the film industry was presented at a function held at the Marriott Hotel in collaboration with the National Planning Commission. In which the current situation of women in Nepali films, fair value of profession and labor, employment assurance were discussed.
ILO Nepal representative Kripa Basnet said that the conclusion of the dialogue was that the government should immediately create a policy to create sustainable employment by making women aware of the dignity of the profession. Various individuals and organizations from the film industry presented their suggestions in the program.
National Planning Commission member Ramkumar Phuyal and member secretary Toynarayan Gyawali said that by understanding the situation of women filmmakers, a program can be made for a sustainable decent profession. In the program, actress Basundhar Bhusal, artist and dance director Pabitra Acharya shared their experience of working in the film industry.
KP Pathak, President of Film and Cultural Academy, Mohan Niraula, President of Movie Artists Association, Samir Balami, President of Film Journalists Association, etc. suggested to correct the report saying that there are some wrong data and information. President Balami said that if the film policy is not formulated, there is no guarantee of sustainable revenue in the film industry.
Nepal Director of ILO Numan Ozkan was also present in the event. The Ministry of Women and Children, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Education, Industry, Commerce and Supply, Ministry of Tourism, National Statistics Department, Ministry of Finance, UNESCO, Plan International, Directors Society, Dance Association representatives were present.
