Renowned Hindi and Marathi film actress and theater artist Uttara Baokar passed away in Pune on Wednesday. She was 79 years old.
Baokar, who acted in Hindi films like Tamas, Sardari Begum, Takshak, Dor, Aaja Nach Le and Marathi films like Doghi, Uttarayan, Restaurant, Samhita, studied acting from the prestigious National School of Drama in Delhi.
Born in 1944 in Sangli district of Maharashtra, Baokar played important roles in popular plays like Padmavati, Meena Gurjari, Tughlaq, Chhote Syed Bade Syed and Umrao Jaan.
She has acted in many serials like Udaan, Antral, Rishtey, Kora Kagaz, Nazarana, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi.
Baokar was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1984 for his contribution to Hindi theatre.
She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1988 for Mrinal Sen’s film Ek Din Achanak.
