Basanta Kunwar is appointed as a new Inspector General of Police.

KATHMANDU, March 24 – AIG Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has been appointed as IGP at the Cabinet meeting held at Singha Darbar.

With the government’s decision, Kunwar managed to become the 30th Inspector General of the Nepal Police.

Kunwar joined the police service as an inspector on March 19, 1999. This time the government has kept priority in appointing the IGP.

When he was promoted from Senior Superintendent to Deputy Inspector General is of Police, Kunwar was promoted to rank one. On March 20, 2023, the Cabinet promoted 5 people including Kunwar as Additional Inspector General of Police. Even when he was AIG, Kunwar was ranked number one.

On May 1, 2022, the government appointed Dhiraj Pratap Singh as IGP after shuffling the ranks. Singh retired after completing 30 years of service.
