Elections are being held for the new working committee of the Nepal Movie Actors Association, a joint organization of actors who act in Nepali films. Mohan Niraula and Regina Upreti have been elected as presidents and 46 people have registered their candidatures. Among them, there are very few well-known artists. However, the association has not been able to attract established and well-known artists.
Actor and director Shobit Basnet says that so far, the working committee of the association has been unable to reach the actors because there are worthless people. He says, ‘No matter how many tenures have gone so far, all of them were worthless. They could not do anything except taking pictures and eating. It is because of those worthless artists that the famous artists could not reach the association.’
Shobit has made a comment that one must be unemployed and unknown to sit in the working committee of the artist association. ‘The next working committee should be able to include everyone. It should be made that the association is not an organization that takes pictures and serves food only. If this happens, the artists who ran in the next election can come,’ he said. He says that he himself does not know most of those who have given candidature.
Let us also be proud, let Shiv Shrestha, Bhuvan KC, Rajesh Hamal become presidents. Actors like Ramesh Upreti, Dilip Rayamaji were appointed as General Secretary. Actors like Gauri Malla, Mithila Sharma should come as vice president. And, it would have been good for us too,’ Shobit continues, ‘now there are 46 candidates, 43 of them I don’t know.’ He is open to Regina’s side.
