KATHMANDU, March 9 – Ram Chandra Poudel was elected as the new president of Nepal after winning a resounding election victory.
Poudel received 214 votes from the House of Representatives and 352 votes from the Provincial Assemblies. His closest rival, CPN-UML’s Subhash Chandra Nembang, trailed far behind with 162 votes from the House of Representatives and 98 votes from the Provincial Assemblies.
The election saw five invalid votes out of the total count.
The election results indicate a clear mandate for Poudel, who is now set to assume the role of the country’s president.
