KATHMANDU, February 27: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal prepares to seek a confidence vote ahead of the presidential election.
The presidential election is scheduled for March 9.
The CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party withdrew their support for the government when Prime Minister Dahal joined the Nepal Congress, CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Janamorcha Party for the upcoming presidential election.
However, the Rastriya Swatantra Party has not yet withdrawn its support for the government.
In accordance with Article 100(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, in case the political party represented by the Prime Minister splits or a political party in the coalition government withdraws its support, the Prime Minister shall submit a motion in the House of Representatives. for a vote of confidence within thirty days.
With the decision of the CPN-UML party and Rastriya Prajatantra to withdraw their support for the government, the government led by Prime Minister Dahal now enjoys the support of 153 lawmakers, including 32 CPN (Maoist Center) lawmakers, 88 lawmakers from the Congress of Nepal, 12 from JSP, 10 from CPN (USA), four from Nagarik Unmukti Party, six from Janamat Party and one from Rastriya Janamorcha.
