Police officer who attacked doctor suspended

KATHMANDU, February 11: The policeman who attacked a doctor with batons during President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s trip has been suspended. Nepal Police spokesman DIG Poshraj Pokharel informed Ratopati that Chief Constable Shambhujang Gurung has been suspended by Kathmandu Range District Police.

Gurung worked in the public service of the police circle. On Friday, a life member of the Nepal Medical Association and Senior Orthopedic Surgeon at the National Trauma Center, Dr. Janithlal Singh, was seriously injured by police inside the hospital premises while charging with batons.

Singh, a doctor who works in a sensitive field such as healthcare, was brutally attacked by police inside the hospital premises despite the fact that he showed his ID when leaving his home after completing an operation.
