Nepalese Congress begins preparation for by-elections to be held in Chitwan-2

KATHMANDU, January 31: The Nepalese Congress has begun preparations for a by-election to be held in Chitwan-2.
By-elections are scheduled to take place in Chitwan-2 after the Supreme Court threw out Rabi Lamichhane’s parliamentary position and outlawed his Nepali citizenship.
Lamichhane was previously elected to the Chitwan-2 House of Representatives (HoR) by defeating Umesh Shrestha of the Nepali Congress and Krishna Bhakta Pokharel of CPN-UML.
The Nepali Congress is likely to nominate Umesh Shrestha again.
Pursuant to Article 84 (7) of the Constitution of Nepal, in case the seat of any member of the House of Representatives becomes vacant while their term remains for more than six months, the vacancy shall be filled in the same manner as the electoral system. as in which such a seat was fulfilled.
