Rastriya Swatantra Party ministers resign

Ministers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have resigned following the party’s decision to leave the government over Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s refusal to cede the Home Ministry.

Education Minister Shishir Khanal, Labor Minister Dol Prasad Aryal and State Health Minister Toshima Karki met Prime Minister Dahal in Baluwatar on Sunday evening and tendered their resignations.

A joint meeting of the party’s central committee and the parliamentary party held at the party’s Basundhara office on Sunday decided to withdraw its ministers while continuing its support for the government.

RSP resigned from the government as it was not given the Interior Ministry as per the previous agreement reached in the ruling coalition.

RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane was previously appointed as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister but lost the post after the Supreme Court found him ineligible to become a lawmaker in its verdict in the case over his citizenship.

Prime Minister Dahal then refused to reinstate Lamichhane as Home Minister after Lamichhane regained Nepali citizenship and insisted on keeping the Home Ministry with the CPN (Maoist Center).
