CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli urged Prime Minister (Prime Minister) Pushpa Kamal Dahal not to waver long on the presidential election.
He also asked Dahal to give a clear answer on whether he would implement the agreement reached at the time of forming the government during their meeting in Baluwatar on Wednesday, according to a UML source. “The president asked him to at least be honest with himself and remember the previous agreement,” the source added.
Dahal in response repeated that he would move on after holding the discussion.
The source confided that Oli proposed making CPN (United Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal the next president during their meeting, but a source close to Dahal claimed that Oli did not make the proposal.
“They talked about the presidential elections. But there has been no discussion about any individual,” the source close to Dahal said. “PM is making efforts to advance consensus building.”
Dahal resigned from the coalition with NC and Unified Socialist on December 25, 2022 and became Prime Minister with the support of CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party, RPP, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party later Nepalese Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba refused to appoint him first prime minister.
UML has been saying the party should get the post of president as per the power-sharing deal reached with Dahal at the time of forming the government, while Prime Minister Dahal has been talking about the national consensus for president ever since NC voted for his government during the session. Dahal has not specified what that national consensus is, but several party sources have confirmed that the Maoist Center seems willing to support the NC candidate in the presidential elections.
