Kathmandu- The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has said that the launch of the social security scheme aimed at foreign workers and self-employed people abroad is a great achievement.
After the process of bringing foreign workers and self-employed workers abroad into the scope of social security started today, the association said that the important issue that has been raised for a long time has been addressed.
The union has reminded the situation that women workers are getting lower wages than men in some cases at home or abroad and has drawn the attention of the government to take this situation into consideration while including it in this plan. According to the union, after the fund started listing the workers in the contribution-based social security fund in order to get benefits including pension, the way to join the fund has opened up for the majority of workers.
Rabina Thapa, Executive President of the Non-Resident Nepalese Association, said ‘As a result of the association’s continuous efforts and close cooperation with the Nepalese government, the fund has succeeded in starting a contribution-based social security program so that foreign workers can get benefits including pension. We expect that more than 4 million Nepali brothers and sisters and families working abroad will benefit from this plan.
Another president of the association, Kool Acharya, expressed his gratitude to the government and stakeholders for the success of the long-standing initiative.
Since its initial campaign, the association has been advocating, lobbying, co-ordinating and cooperating with the government and other stakeholders to make the field of foreign employment safe, dignified and orderly.
The association, in cooperation with the government, has prepared to conduct an awareness program about membership in the social security fund in Qatar and Malaysia from April 7 to 9.
