The Gopikrishna Movie Theater, which has a long history of showing movies in Chabahil, Kathmandu, will close on Falgun 1. Gopikrishna Movies’ managing director, Nirak Paudel, stated in a statement that the theater’s closure was decided upon because of the financial losses incurred since Corona. It is not made clear if the hall is closed indefinitely or just temporarily.
In a statement released on Friday, it is said, ‘to express the pain of closing this business, which has been active for the past five decades and has been at the forefront of film production, exhibition and distribution in the country, due to the huge financial loss suffered by this hall due to the business recession in the film sector since the Corona period and the existing tax system of the state. It can’t be done.’
After the earthquake, the main building of Gopikrishna, which formerly housed seven halls, was destroyed. Additionally, two years ago, three halls in a different building—Om, Namah, and Shivaya—were operationalized with an RGB (red, green, and blue) color scheme. But the old craze of Gopikrishna could not be revived by these halls.
