Kathmandu, March 30
The Nepali Congress has chosen its candidates for the by-elections in Tanahun 1 and Chitwan 2.
The party on Thursday decided that Govinda Bhattarai and Jit Narayan Shrestha will contest the Tanahun 1 and Chitwan 2 by-elections respectively.
A by-election is taking place in Tanahun 1 after Rep-elect Ram Chandra Paudel became president of the country. Chitwan 2 by-election is taking place after Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane was removed from office as legislator stating that he was not qualified to challenge the House of Representatives choice as he did not take the initiative to obtain Nepali citizenship after renouncing his US citizenship.
The party has yet to decide on its candidate for Bara 2. It is most likely to support Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal in the constituency, where JSPN Chairman Upendra Yadav is preparing to run.
