KATHMANDU, March 20: Visiting UK House of Commons Member Virendra Sharma met with Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina at the latter’s office at Singha Durbar today. Sharma is also Chairman of the British-Nepal All Party Parliamentary Group. During the meeting, the pair shared experiences of the parliamentary practices of both countries, it has been said.
On the occasion, NA President Timilsina praised the British government for its assistance in the development of Nepal.
Stating that he had officially sent a letter of invitation to the Speaker of the British Parliament for a visit to Nepal, he said that he wanted to welcome the British President as the main guest for an official event to be organized here in Nepal to mark the 107th year of peace. and friendly treaty reached between Nepal and the UK. He also urged initiatives to remove the operating ban on Nepalese airlines within the European Union and to operate a direct Nepal-UK flight.
He also referred to the problems faced by British Gurkhas, promoting tourism, British investment in infrastructure, upskilling and managing scholarships for Nepali students, and asked for the UK’s help in this regard.
In return, Sharma said a high-level visit to Nepal by the British government would be coming soon.
