KATHMANDU, February 8: The government has decided to send medical equipment and essential assistance to Turkey following a devastating earthquake there.
A meeting of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management held on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Council of Ministers made a decision on the matter.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ called Turkey a good friend of Nepal and stressed the need to join hands during the crisis. “Turkey is a good friend of Nepal. In the past, he was with us during need and emergency and it is our responsibility to be by his side in these hours of pain,” he said, proposing that the meeting send medical equipment and emergency supplies and essential logistics as soon as possible.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, Army Chief of Staff Parabhu Ram Sharma and the officers and committee members.
Turkey was hit by a 7.8 earthquake on Monday, reporting massive loss of life and property.
