KATHMANDU, February 5 – Nepal Telecommunications Company Limited (Nepal Telecom), the state-owned telecommunication service provider in Nepal, turned 19 today.
On the occasion of its anniversary, the NTC is hosting a special function at its headquarters complex in Bhadrakali Plaza this morning.
Telecom spokesperson Shovan Adhikari shared that the Company has been providing mobile, GSM, GPRS, 3G and 4G services to its customers. Likewise, it has been providing mobile telephony and dedicated line service, broadband internet service and dedicated line, and SMS services over the Internet.
Meanwhile, Communications and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma, in her message delivered on the occasion, urged the NTC to expand the scope of telecom service to rural and remote areas.
In the message, he noted that the NTC has been in the campaign to support the government’s policy for skill- and knowledge-intensive educational development through access and use of innovative Internet-based information technology and thereby alleviate the poverty.
Minister Sharma expressed her confidence that the NTC will further devote its efforts to create opportunities for service recipients to obtain quality and reliable service in a more competitive environment by taking advantage of innovative technology and achievements in the IT sector.
Likewise, the secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Baikuntha Aryal, expressed his best wishes to the NTC for its ability to provide accessible, reliable and higher quality service to customers.
NTC Managing Director Sunil Poudel expressed his commitment to do everything possible to make the company the first choice for customers by making the best use of existing high-tech infrastructure, networks and resources, including human capital.
The NTC, as reported, has a total revenue of over Rs 44.37 billion and a net profit of Rs 8.47 billion in FY 2078/79 BS. It has more than 21.32 million customers for voice service as of mid-December 2022. It includes 20,168,000 customers for GSM mobile service, 437,000 for ADSL service and 455,000 for PSTN service.
Likewise, the number of its clients for FTTH service reaches 247,114 while it has 211,579 clients for FTTH data. 4G users have reached 11,550,000. Telecom has started a 5G trial in 2023.
According to the MIS Report of the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) from mid-September to mid-October 2022, the NTC has a total market coverage of 52.24 percent towards voice service.
NTC sources shared that its 4G FTE service has reached 739 local level units in all 77 districts.
