The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to register a written petition demanding that the Nepal Congress (NC) be stripped of the status of the main opposition party for voting in favor of the Chairman of the Prime Minister (PM), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, during the floor test.
Lawyer Bimal Pokharel had brought the petition to the SC and also demanded that the leader of the North Carolina parliamentary party or leaders of other parties who voted for Prime Minister Dahal during the floor test be barred from attending the Constitutional Council meeting. .
SC Secretary Narayan Panthi told Setopati that the petition was not accepted because the issue was an internal matter of parliament.
There was confusion as to whether the big old party should be considered a ruling party or an opposition party after voting for Prime Minister Dahal, although NC stated that it will remain an opposition party despite voting for Prime Minister Dahal.
But the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament finally recognized NC as the main opposition party.
