CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman and Prime Minister (Prime Minister) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has informed party officials that, for now, he will not hand over the Home Ministry to anyone.
Prime Minister Dahal has been left with the Home Office after Rabi Lamichhane lost the post of legislator and consequently that of Home Minister following the Supreme Court (SC) verdict on Friday.
“We discussed that no further decision on the home minister will be made until the full text of the SC verdict arrives,” Maoist vice president Krishna Bahadur Mahara told reporters after the officials’ meeting on Tuesday. “PM oversees the responsibility of the Home Office for now. That will continue.”
Rastriya Swatantra party chairman Rabi Lamichhane met Dahal in Baluwatar early Tuesday and threatened to leave the government if he is not reinstated as home minister.
Lamichhane also arrived in Baluwatar on Sunday night after he acquired Nepali citizenship and was reinstated as party chief earlier and expressed his desire to return as home minister.
Noting that the case over his citizenship is over and the passport inquiry will also end in a few days, Lamichhane asked Prime Minister Dahal on Sunday to reappoint him as home minister after that. Lamichhane argued that there should be no difficulty in appointing him as he would return to the House of Representatives (HoR) by winning the Chitwan-2 by-election.
Mahara has also stated that the president will be chosen by national consensus.
