Kathmandu, January 31
The government is preparing to enact a special law dedicated to controlling conflicts of interest, announces the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The Minister of Justice Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan recently assigned the Law Commission of Nepal prepare a concept note and bill to address the problem reportedly rampant in all sectors of governance in the country.
“Nepal had pledged to make a law to discourage conflict of interest along with other commitments on corruption control,” says ministry spokesman Phanindra Gautam, “for that, we have ordered the law commission.”
While some laws have provisions on controlling conflicts of interest in particular fields, a dedicated law specifically addressing the issue has been lacking. Now, with the introduction of the new law, the government wants to close the gap.
