Sankata Club has won the title of the 22nd edition of Aha-Rara Gold Cup football tournament in Pokhara. In the final match held at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday, Sankata won the title with a cash prize of Rs.
This is the second time that Sankata has won the title of Aharara. Earlier, Sankata won the title in the 19th edition. When Sankata won the title for the second time, they defeated the foreign team for the second time as well. Runner-up Bhutanese Youth Sports won Rs.6 lakh.
Sankat had to play extra time for the win. After both teams scored 2 goals in the scheduled time, the game was pushed to extra time. In the extra time, Sunil Ball of Sankat gave the title to the team.
In the 8th minute of the game, Sankat’s Suraj Jiu Thakuri scored the first goal and gave the team the lead. Sankata’s Mesuke doubled the gap by adding a second goal in the 35th minute. Within 2 minutes after Sankata doubled the goal difference, Celtelin of Bhutan added a goal to reduce the difference. In the extra time of the first half, Wills of Bhutnij scored a goal to equalize the game.
