Magh 4, Biratnagar. After the 19-day-old baby did not eat milk, relatives and neighbors advised Umadevi Mukhiya to take her to the hospital.
On Wednesday morning, relatives along with husband Dilip Mukhia brought the baby to the emergency ward of Koshi Hospital in an ambulance from the Maiti house in Biratnagar 10. Although her house is Ward No. 3 of Jahda Rural Municipality, Umadevi came to Maitighar Biratnagar 10 after the birth of her child.
Shortly after reaching the hospital, the doctor declared the baby dead as he had no heartbeat. The news of her 19-day-old daughter’s death brought tears to Uma’s relatives.
He took Maiti home saying for the funeral. But after reaching home, the relatives looked on and the baby breathed a sigh of relief. After moving his arms and legs, he quickly called an ambulance and admitted him to Golden Hospital, which is near Koshi Hospital.
The hospital said that the infant, who was admitted on Wednesday morning, is being treated in the NICU. Dr. Satish Yadav, a doctor at Golden Hospital, has informed that the underweight baby may have problems due to physical weakness, infection and cold.
According to Umadevi, her daughter was taken to Koshi Hospital in the morning after she did not eat milk. The infant was examined by three people at the hospital. She alleged that the doctor negligently declared her child dead when she was still alive.
Assault on doctor
After the infant, who was declared dead, breathed, the relatives of the infant who was admitted to Golden Hospital went to Koshi Hospital and assaulted the doctor.
Three health workers under the leadership of Dr. Akash Yadav, a medical officer working in the emergency room of Koshi Hospital, were assigned to treat the baby. Relatives of the child assaulted him and sustained minor injuries. His head is injured.
The police arrested three people after they got into a scuffle for declaring a living child dead.
Acting Medical Superintendent of Koshi Hospital Biratnagar Dr. Lakshminarayan Yadav said that a settlement was reached after the perpetrators apologized. He said that the doctor was questioned about declaring the baby dead.
Abuse of journalists
