Nepalis working abroad can be part of Nepal’s social security system from now on, government announces.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal launched the new system in the middle of a function organized in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
With the launch of the system, Nepalis working abroad and self-employed abroad can participate in the contribution-based social security program, reports the Social Security Fund.
Fund director Roshan Koju says he is interested Nepalis working abroad You need to pay Rs 2,200 every month to participate in the scheme. But, if they make payments for more than seven months at a time, they can get a 10 percent discount.
Payments can be made through mobile wallets including Khalti and eSewa and Connect IPS.
A call center has been established where interested persons can call and request information. There are WhatsApp and Viber groups as well to share information.
So far, 399,566 people have participated in the plan.
