Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) leader Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has been elected Nepal’s third vice president.
Yadav defeated Ashta Laxmi Shakya of the CPN-UML and Mamata Jha of the Janamat Party in elections held on Friday.
Yadav is the leader of the JSP parliamentary party. He was elected to the Bara-2 House of Representatives in the November 20 general election.
According to the Electoral Commission, Yadav has received a total of 30,328 weighted votes: 14,536 from 184 federal legislators and 15,792 from 329 provincial assembly members.
The Electoral Commission, however, has not yet made an official announcement.
