A total of 331 deputies from the Federal Parliament and 550 deputies from the provincial assemblies will vote in the presidential elections scheduled for March 9.
The New Baneshwar Teller’s Office released the list of voters for the presidential election on Wednesday.
Of the 334 seats in the Federal Parliament, one has remained vacant since the Supreme Court ruled that Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane was ineligible to become a lawmaker. Lamichhane was elected to the Chitwan-2 House of Representatives in the general election on 20 November.
Nepalese Congressman Tek Bahadur Gurung will also be unable to vote as he is suspended on corruption charges.
Similarly, the name of Nagarik Unmukti Party lawmaker Arun Kumar Chaudhary is not included in the voter list, as the voter list was last updated when the notice of his arrest was read at the Parliament Secretariat. Federal. Chaudhary has already been released from prison after President Bidya Devi Bhandari renounced his sentence. However, CPN-UML lawmaker Laxmi Mahato Koiri, who is on the police wanted list, is on the voter list.
“The Election Commission finalized the names of the voters and sent us the list,” Mahesh Sharma Paudel, head of the presidential election office, told Setopati. “We have only published the list.”
According to the electoral schedule, any complaint related to the voter list can be filed until Thursday.
The Regulation on the election of president and vice president establishes that the Electoral Commission requests lists of acting legislators from the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament and the seven secretariats of the provincial assemblies and finalizes the list of voters.
