Number of countries with diplomatic relations with Nepal reaches 178

KATHMANDU, February 17: Diplomatic relations have been established between Nepal and the Republic of Malawi. This brings the number of countries with which Nepal has diplomatic relations to 178. Amrit Bahadur Rai, Permanent Representative/Ambassador of Nepal to the United Nations, and Agnes Marie Chimbiri-Molande, Permanent Representative/Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to the Nations, signed a joint statement on Thursday at a brief ceremony at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations, New York.
According to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations, the two ambassadors signed a joint letter informing the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, about the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. On that occasion, the two ambassadors deliberated on various issues of common interest to strengthen bilateral cooperation on national and international platforms. They also discussed the role of the least developed countries as a group in various international fora, including the United Nations, for the protection and promotion of the common interests of the group. Nepal will assume the role of chair of the Malawi LDC Global Coordination Office next month.
Located in southern Africa, Malawi is also a landlocked country that shares borders with Mozambique, Zambia, and Tanzania. The total area of ​​Malawi, which has a population of about 20 million, is 184,484. Both Nepal and Malawi are members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Group of 77, the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).
