KATHMANDU-February 16: Nepali Congress (NC) Leader Dr. Chandra Kanta Bhandari, who was injured in a cooking gas cylinder explosion last night, is to be flown to India for further treatment. Preparations are said to be underway to take him to the Mumbai-based National Skin Burn Hospital on the Shree Airlines air ambulance in due time.
The House of Representatives (HoR) member and his mother, Harikala Bhandari, were injured when a cooking gas cylinder exploded at their home in Kathmandu on Wednesday night. Both were rushed to the Kirtipur-based Kirtipur Hospital, following the incident.
The hospital has referred the leader out of the country for further treatment, the family source said. According to the hospital, Dr. Bhandari suffered 25 to 30 percent burns, including on both hands and legs. However, his mother succumbed to her burns at 10:57 am today. She was 86 years old.
