Dhangadhi, February 9
Sudurpaschim’s chief minister, Rajendra Rawal, resigned after failing to win a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly.
During a meeting of the assembly on Thursday, the 30th of Rawal of the CPN-UML being appointed the prime minister, the speaker announced that Rawal was unable to secure majority support in the voice vote held.
Article 168(4) of the Constitution required him to do the floor test within 30 days of the appointment.
After the vote, he tendered his resignation to Governor Dev Raj Joshi tonight.
After that, Joshi appointed Kamal Bahadur Shah of the Nepal Congress as the prime minister for being the leader of the largest parliamentary party in the provincial legislature as per article 168(3) of the constitution.
Shah is also required to give a vote of confidence within the next 30 days.
Rajendra Rawal lost the job when the Nagarik Unmukti Party, which has seven swing votes, decided to boycott the vote by demanding that the ruling alliance in the federal government, led by the prime minister’s UML party, release its leader Resham Chaudhary. Chaudhary is serving a sentence after his conviction for murder of eight policemen in the Tikapur massacre in 2015.
