Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane met Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Baluwatar and threatened to leave the government if he is not reinstated as Home Minister.
Lamichhane, who lost the post of legislator and consequently that of home minister after the Supreme Court (SC) verdict on Friday, also arrived in Baluwatar on Sunday evening after he acquired Nepali citizenship and was reinstated. previously as party chief and expressed his desire to return as interior minister.
He has threatened to resign from the government if he is not appointed interior minister during his meeting with Dahal on Tuesday.
Noting that the case over his citizenship is over and the passport inquiry will also end in a few days, Lamichhane asked Prime Minister Dahal on Sunday to reappoint him as home minister after that. Lamichhane argued that there should be no difficulty in appointing him as he would return to the House of Representatives (HoR) by winning the Chitwan-2 by-election.
Prime Minister Dahal does not want to reinstate Lamichhane as interior minister. CPN (Maoist Center) leaders have been arguing that the party should keep the Interior Ministry, as it did not get any powerful ministry in the power-sharing deal in the ruling coalition.
But the Rastriya Swatantra party now has 19 seats in the HoR after the Supreme Court ruled that Lamichhane is ineligible to become a lawmaker.
