And they’ve wasted little time unveiling new home and away jerseys for the men’s and women’s senior national teams, as well as the country’s youth, futsal, beach soccer and esports teams.

launch campaign”La Resera” (β€œSearch”) contains a short promo Azzurri Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, Azure Midfielder Martina Rosucci and 2006 World Cup winner Alessandro Del Piero, in which a young fan begins a treasure hunt through a magical forest in search of a new home jersey.

The 2023-24 kits take their design inspiration from marble, a natural material prized for its elegance and flexibility that was used to build dozens of ancient sites and monuments of historical importance in Italy.

It also includes a bespoke design woven into the fabric, intended to represent chisel marks made in marble by artisans working with the raw material. The word “Italia” can also be found in color, with the typography again designed to resemble Roman engravings.

The corresponding away jersey is predominantly off-white with distinctive dark blue and gold “veining” literally marbled across the torso – a far cry from the white, red and green alternating uniform designs of recent years.

As well as playing kits, there is also a full range of training and streetwear apparel. The most interesting offering is probably the official prematch warm-up shirt with the national flag’s green, white and red large marble swirl recreated from sleeve to sleeve.

Having suffered through a number of Italy kits in the recent past (2022’s awful checkerboard design, anyone?) it’s reassuring to see European football’s most stylish nation re-inventing itself in the aesthetic stakes.

After the men’s team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, they will be hoping that this new era of rebirth and rehabilitation extends to their fortunes on the pitch as well.
