Why are Man Utd only looking for loan deals? Analysis from the transfer show panel

Speaking on Friday, Manchester United manager Erik ten Haag said Anthony Martial needed to provide attacking cover for the struggling Marcus Rashford.

Martial had an interrupted pre-season, and has been unable to complete 90 minutes this term as a result of an injury-hindered campaign.

“There’s a reason [Martial has been substituted in his last seven games]. It’s because he can’t handle the load,” Ten Haag said. “That’s why we’re looking for another striker.

“It’s not that we don’t rely on him. His physical load, at the moment, is not so high that he can play every third day, 90 minutes. So I have to manage that with him.

“We’re on a fine line now because Anthony Martial’s qualities are so important to our game now. His movement, his ball protection, pressure, don’t forget it. We need that profile to be a threat.

“Also, Marcus Rashford benefits from that. So I’m not worried about just Marcus scoring goals, because I’m confident about the other players. [can score too].

“Anthony scored goals, not just Anthony Martial [in the 3-1 FA Cup win against Everton]. Bruno Fernandes is also very capable of scoring goals, Christian Eriksen will create and score goals too. So we have a lot of players who can score.”
