LONDON, Jan 8 (Reuters) – Prince Harry has gone public with his rift with the British royal family and said he has taken to the press to help the monarchy and try to change the media, after what his father King Charles described as a “suicide campaign”.
In the first A A series of TV interviews Aired on Sunday ahead of the launch of his memoir, Harry accused his family members of being in bed with the devil – according to the tabloid press – to fix him and his wife Meghan’s reputation.
He told Britain’s ITV that he fled Britain with his family for California in 2020 “fearing for our lives” and said he no longer knew his father or his older brother Prince William, the heir to the throne.
“After many years of lying about me and my family, there comes a point where, going back to the relationship between some members of the family and the tabloid press, those certain members decided to stay in bed. The devil … to restore his image,” he said.
“When that rehabilitation harms others, me, other members of my family, that’s when I draw the line.”
Thursday, Harry’s Book “Spare” The mistake went on sale in Spain five days before its official release, chronicling Not just the more personal details, like how he lost his virginity and took illegal drugs, but more intimately private instances of family discord.
His older brother knocked him down in a fight, and both brothers begged their father not to marry his second wife, Camilla, now the queen consort, the book says.
Commentators say the book plunges the monarchy into its biggest crisis since the days of royal soap operas in the 1990s, with Charles’ marriage to his late first wife Princess Diana, the mother of William and Harry, falling apart.
All this comes after four months Queen Elizabeth died and Charles succeeded to the throne.
In the ITV interview, Harry repeated and elaborated on the allegations he and Meghan made after stepping down from royal duties. That the royal family and their allies not only failed to protect them from a hostile and sometimes racist press, but actively leaked stories about them through anonymous sources.
conflict
“The saddest part of it is that some of my family members and the people who work for them are involved in that conflict,” he said, implying that it involved both Charles and Camilla.
So far, there has been no comment from Buckingham Palace. Harry said he didn’t think his father or brother read his books.
An unnamed friend of William’s told The Sunday Times that the Prince of Wales was “burning” with anger, but would not respond “for the good of his family and country”.
Harry told ITV that he wanted a reconciliation with his family members but said they had shown no interest, believing it was better to keep him and Meghan as villains.
“I really believe, and I hope, that the reconciliation between my family and us will have an impact on the whole world. Maybe it’s high, maybe it’s naive,” he said.
Harry also said he hoped his multiple legal actions against newspapers would help change the media, saying it was “at the heart of many problems across the UK”.
“My father told me it was probably a suicide mission to try to change the press,” he said.
Polls suggest that many Britons are getting bored with the whole royal melodrama, and that further revelations are unlikely to sway their opinions, whether sympathetic to Harry and Meghan, or to those they criticize.
“I love my father. I love my brother. I love my family. I always will. I have never done anything in this book or otherwise to harm or hurt them,” he said. .
