Oh great, it’s just a disaster. 2023 is off to a cursed start Bayern Munich With Noussair Mazroaui set to miss six to eight weeks with pericarditis. The Moroccan fullback apparently suffered from severe COVID-19 during his holiday following the World Cup. Per BuildThe player’s blood tests revealed that he will need complete rest for the next few weeks. He will now undergo regular tests, with doctors keeping a close eye on him to decide when he can start training.
Needless to say, the news dashed Bayern’s hopes Champions League and out. Mazraoui was one of the best performers in the Hinrunde, and PSG could kill the tie if they beat him in the first leg of the tie as well. Having already ruled out Lucas Hernandez and Manuel Neuer, Julian Nagelsmann will have to deal with the absence of another key defender in the likes of Leo Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
As you may recall, this is the second year in a row where a Bayern fullback has been ruled out due to heart problems as a result of Covid. Last year, Alphonso Davies was diagnosed with myocarditis during the winter break, and missed the games leading up to the second leg vs. Villarreal In the quarterfinals of the Champions League. If Mazraoui’s recovery timeline is anything to go by, there’s a chance he’ll be back to play a quarterfinal.
Honestly, this news is just… heartbreaking. There is nothing else to say. Another example of pure, bad luck in this fraught season.
Update
Meanwhile, Marcel Sabitzer has not attended the team’s training camp in Qatar due to ill health.
Update #2
what Mazraoui had covid in the world cup? So why did he play against France?
ℹ After testing positive for Kovid-19 during the World Cup, a follow-up test in Munich revealed that Nosair Mazraoui had been diagnosed with a mild inflammation of the pericardium.
Wishing you a full and speedy recovery, Nous!

Just a note, the difference between what Mazraoui and Davis have is that the pericardium is the outer fibrous layer that covers the heart, while the myocardium (which in Davis’ case was inflamed, hence the myocarditis) refers to the muscular walls of the heart. himself
Update #3
So Bayern Munich have some doubts.
Bayern doubt that Nosair Mazraoui will not play again in the WC after his covid infection. Mazraoui returned in the semi-final against France and lasted just 45 minutes, then missed the third-place playoff entirely. This can trigger pericarditis [@BILD] pic.twitter.com/hVifHne3WQ
