The Supreme Court will not issue an interim order in the citizenship and passport case of Ravi Lamichhane, who is the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.
The Constitutional Court on Friday did not issue an interim order while hearing the case regarding his citizenship and passport. The court has given priority to the case.
After Lamichhane took American citizenship, Nepali citizenship was automatically revoked, but he made a passport with his old citizenship, registered a new party and contested elections.
A constitutional bench of Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Anand Mohan Bhattarai, Anil Kumar Sinha and Prakashman Singh Raut heard the case against him.
Advocates Raviraj Basaula, Yuvraj Poudel and others filed a writ petition raising questions about the qualifications of Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane, who is also the chairman of the National Independent Party, as a member of the House of Representatives.
In the petition, there is a demand for cancellation of the position of Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane, stating that he opened a political party without taking Nepali citizenship, contested the House of Representatives election and became an MP.
The police were investigating him on the allegation of creating a Nepali passport without renouncing his American citizenship and submitting false information. But he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on December 26.
