5 January, Banke. A child died of measles in Nepalganj on Wednesday.
According to Sunita Paudel, Head of Health Office Banke, the child died while being treated at home due to illness.
According to Banke Health Office, more than 25 measles patients have been found so far.
The health office held an emergency meeting and sent a letter to all local levels to help control the outbreak, saying that the risk of infection has increased in Nepalgunj after the death of a child from measles.
Paudel said that because the parents hid children sick with measles, there was a delay in treatment and diagnosis.
‘Most of the patients are being treated at home,’ said Sunita Paudel, head of the Health Office Banke, ‘now we are looking for more patients and preparing to administer measles vaccination.’
She said that 45,000 doses of vaccine have arrived and they will gather manpower and start administering it.
On Saturday, samples were collected from five people and sent to Kathmandu for testing. Among them, measles was confirmed in four people from the same house.
After the outbreak of measles in the city, the teams of World Health Organization, UNICEF, Health Office, Health Branch of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City have been engaged in monitoring.
