Bomb attack kills nine security officers in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, March 6: Nine security officers were killed and at least 13 others injured during a bomb attack in southwestern Pakistan.

The blast occurred in Balochistan province as officers were returning to Quetta, the provincial capital, after monitoring the Sibi festival, an annual cultural event.

Initial evidence suggests it was a suicide attack, police say.

BBC verified footage shows a police truck crushed and overturned, with blood stains on the ground.

Reuters reports that the attacker rammed a motorcycle into the truck.

No group has claimed responsibility.

The Balochistan government condemned the attack and said an investigation is underway.

The area has been cordoned off and a bomb disposal team is on the scene to gather evidence, authorities say.

Balochistan Prime Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo said: “All those conspiracies against peace in the province will fail with the support of the public.”
