CPN-UML awaits decision of the CPN (Maoist Center) on the presidential election

KATHMANDU, February 20: The CPN-UML, the key member of the coalition government, has announced that it will await the decision of the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) on the presidential elections.

Earlier, after the general election, the CPN (Maoist Center) agreed to support the UML in the presidential election and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of the Maoist Center, was elected Prime Minister in support of the UML.

However, judging from the news published in the media, Prime Minister Dahal is now in the mood to support the Nepali Congress in the presidential election. UML for its part has maintained that it will decide on the presidential election only after the CPN (Maoist Center) gives its official decision.

The two party leaders PM Dahal and KP Sharma Oli also met this morning in Baluwatar.

Both Dahal and Oli want someone close to them to be the next president. Prime Minister Dahal in recent days has been advocating to elect the country’s president through a national consensus. He has also held meetings with the leaders of the Nepal Congress, the CPN (Socialist Unity) and the Janata Samajbadi Party.
