Folk singer Maya Gurung will be honored by Gandaki Pragya Pratisthan

Folk singer Maya Gurung is going to be honored by Gandaki Pragya Pratishthan on the occasion of the foundation day of the foundation which will be held in Pokhara on the 15th of Baisakh.

Gore Gurung, vice-chancellor of the foundation, said that the meeting held on Monday decided to award Gurung with a folk music award of at least 50,000 rupees. Also, singer Gurung will be honored by wearing copper sheet and dosalla. Gandaki Pragya Pratisthan was founded by Prithvi Subba Gurung, Deputy Secretary General of CPN-UML and Member of the House of Representatives, when he was the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province.

Since the year 2030, singer Maya Gurung of Benisahar Municipality 5, Nalma of Lamjung, have been continuously falling towards folk music and songs . “Gaon Sahar Ma Lamjung Darbar, Mayalai Dine Thiyo Phool jasto Jovan, Bhaisakyo Mero Gharbar” sung by Gurung was very popular.

According to the foundation, she is going to be honored as she has been dealing with various problems in the field of folk art for more than three decades and protecting and promoting folk culture.

On the occasion of Democracy Day on Falgun 7, 2045, the folk song competition organized by Radio Nepal, she won first place. She has sung about 200 songs including ‘Sailunge Danda Nalmako, Maya Sarar, Khurpeto Dokole’, solo, duet and collective. She has released 11 song albums.
