KATHMANDU: Leaders of the 10-party coalition are meeting today as well in an effort to finalize the expansion of the cabinet.

The Wednesday meeting in Baluwatar, the prime minister’s official house, came to a deadlock.

The discussion on cabinet expansion and power sharing, among other topics, will continue in today’s conference, according to Ramesh Lekhak, the leader of the Nepali Congress.

He claimed that the meeting on Wednesday had gone well and that they would meet again on Thursday to make more decisions.

“There was discussion, especially regarding cabinet expansion. The discussion has been encouraging,” Lekhak stated, adding, “We will continue to meet and make a decision at the earliest.”

The Nepali Congress, which is the PM’s main coalition partner, is anticipated to hold 10 ministries, including the roles of Deputy Prime Minister and either Finance Minister or Home Minister.

Moreover, the Janata Samajbadi Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), and Janamat Party are likely to each be given two ministries, while the Rastriya Swatantra Party is expected to get two to three. The extension of the Cabinet is thought to be totally under PM Dahal’s control, who recently won two votes of confidence.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has stated that the Council of Ministers will be expanded by April 24.
