Nepal has reached the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in dramatic fashion at Eden Garden Oval in Ajman in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

Victory came thanks to a 48th-minute hat-trick from Dipesh Kandel as Nepal beat the United Arab Emirates by seven runs to qualify for the Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2024.

This will be Nepal’s first appearance at the U-19 World Cup since 2016.

Up at bat, Nepal only managed to score 192 thanks to a half-century by captain Dev Khanal.

Chasing a modest total, the UAE seemed to be in cruise control, but then Kandel arrived who turned the tide of the match and handed Nepal an unprecedented victory over the UAE, who in 2020 had beaten Nepal by 1 career thanks to Duckworth-Lewis. –Stern method (DLS).

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates qualified thanks to their previous performances, as the qualifiers could not be held due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking after the match with the ICC, Jagat Tamata, the coach of the U19 team, said the victory capped a hugely successful qualifier for Nepal.

“We have faced a lot of talented cricketers over the past week, but for us, winning all our games highlights the wealth of talent we possess within this team,” he said. “We are excited at the prospect of facing the strongest teams and the best young players in the world in Sri Lanka next year.”
