The Supreme Court will hear the appeal of cricketer Lamichhane today

KATHMANDU, February 26: A High Court hearing is taking place today on whether to keep former Men’s National Cricket Team captain Sandeep Lamichhane in court custody or proceed with his release on bail.

Likewise, today the appeal of the leg turner, accused of raping a minor, will also be known so that he is allowed to travel outside the country to play cricket. The single court Supreme Court Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, while hearing Lamichhane’s appeal on Friday, ordered the hearing to be scheduled for today.

Sunday’s hearing will focus on whether the Patan High Court’s order to release Lamichhane on Rs 2 crore bail was correct or not. If the Supreme Court upholds the High Court’s order, then Lamichhane’s appeal for traveling outside the country will be heard.

The rape case filed against Lamichhane is pending in the Kathmandu district court. The Attorney General’s Office had filed the petition challenging the high court’s decision to release Lamichhane on bail. Both requests are being heard today before a divisional court made up of two judges.
