500 young Afghans join the national army

February 18: A total of 500 Afghan youths joined the Afghan Nation Army in the eastern province of Nangarhar, according to a statement from the country’s Defense Ministry published here on Saturday.

After completing the three-month military training course and receiving the certificates, 500 Afghan youths were sent to the national army on Friday, the statement added.

The newly commissioned military officers, according to the statement, expressed their willingness to serve the nation in every corner of the country to defend national sovereignty.

A similar number of young men were sent to the national army in the western province of Herat last week.

According to Defense Ministry spokesman Enayatullah Khawrazmi, Afghanistan has planned to build a 150,000-strong national army for the war-torn country.
